Baptism Invitations
| |||||||||||||||||
Baptism Invitations should
reflect the importance of this very significant Day. It is a day
to be celebrated with family and friends, and can be as big or as small
as you want it to be.
If you come from a European background like my husband and I do, they place alot of importance on this day, for some it's more important than the 1st birthday - and sometimes you can be pressured into having a big party, regardless of whether you want one or not. However, don't feel pressured to do things someone else's way. You are now a parent, so choices like this come with the territory.
My Husband and I stuck to our guns and had a beautiful small catholic baptism, with just our immediate families and the godparents. Mind you, there still ended up being about 30 people, and that was plenty for us. At my daughters 1st birthday (which is when we chose to have the big party), we were still getting grief about not inviting all the aunties and uncles from afar! But at the end of the day, we did things our way, and it was a perfect day for us and our daughter!
Baptism is a water purification ritual which has different meanings to different religions, but without going into all the nitty gritty (because that's not why you are here!), for us and our daughter, it meant purity and to be delivered from sin and to "enter the kingdom of Christ and live with him forever".
Your child's christening invitations should reflect upon your particular religion and beliefs. My catholic invitations may differ from a friend who has their children baptized in the Orthodox church. There are many pictures and clip-arts available on the web these days to enable you to create your own baptism invitations.
You could do something similar to what I did - I dressed my daughter up in her christening gown prior to the party, took a picture of her and used this to create my own invitations.
I have created some baptism invitations for you, just incase making your own is not something you are interested in doing, or don't have the time to do them.
